GoSkills - Mobile Business

Several of Real Point's clients require a mobile solution, as do we. With the advent of smartphones such as the iPhone, BlackBerry, Windows and Symbian devices the advantage and usefulness to a business is obvious. Managers, reps and other mobile workers can stay in touch with the office like never before, receiving and answering emails and documents without having to find an Internet connection for their laptop or returning to the office.

GoSkills have Regional Managers located all across the British Isles who, very rarely, are available to make it into the head office but need access to a phone, emails, diaries and contacts, and able to work from home and access the documents stored on the office servers.

All the Regional Managers were equipped with broadband connections at their homes to start with and given laptops. Real Point specified and setup the laptops to the GoSkills domain. We then set up the Remote Access on the servers and Virtual Private Networking (VPN) on the laptops. This allows the Regional Managers to connect through the VPN into the Go Skills office and work as if they are in the office, having access to their emails and server resources like any office user.

To enable the Regional Managers to access the office when they are not at home or travelling they were provided with 3G Mobile Broadband access. The Regional Managers can easily check their emails or quickly update a document and catch up on work between meetings or whilst travelling on the train. They can also use Outlook Web Access (OWA) to quickly check their emails without dialing the VPN.

The Regional Managers also required a mobile phone and sometimes using their laptop was not practical or feasible so it was agreed that a BlackBerry smartphone was an ideal solution. Real Point installed and configured a BlackBerry Professional Server, making sure it connected with their Exchange Servers and connected the BlackBerry handsets with their appropriate user accounts.

GoSkills' Regional Managers are fully equipped to work wherever they are as if they were in the office saving GoSkills time and money.
